My Story, CHINATOWN GIRL, the Diary of Silvey Chan, Auckland 1942 is a book being launched at the Welcome Reception at Auckland Central Library at 6.30pm on Friday, 3 June 2005.Eva Wong Ng has written a number of books about the Chinese communities around New Zealand and the history of the immigration from China beginning in the gold-rush days. This is the Dunedin author's first novel for children.

In Auckland, in 1942 there was an area of the city known as Chinatown in lower Greys Avenue. Here the descendants of the Chinese miners and market gardeners gathered together to maintain their culture and provide a sense of community.New Zealand is at war when Silvey starts her diary, but for Silvey this is just a backdrop to the main issues of her world - the closure of her school and the arrival of Chinese - American soldiers.
