No public transport in Hawera - Just the train in and out - North to Auckland and South to Wellington - and anywhere in between. Taumaranui and the stop off for a cup of tea and a pie. The overnight 14-hour trip between Auckland and Wellington, on that winding, narrow-gauge, mountain railway line. No dining car, no beds, poor heating, endless swaying.
